Historic Venue Makes Comeback
The Val Air ballroom has been around since the 1930s and still retains the retro flavor of that and subsequent eras. I was elated when I found out that my man TobyMac was going to be playing there; Des Moines has been seriously lacking in the medium-sized venue department for a while now.
Two suggestions I would like to make to Mr. Cardani regarding the Val Air re-fit: VENTILATION and A/C. The Audio Adrenaline / TobyMac / Kutless / Hawk Nelson concert last Friday night would have been bearable, even awesome, if it hadn't been hot and impossible to breathe. I can deal with crowds, but I couldn't deal with hot, sweaty, smelly crowds in a barely-ventilated building.
That being considered, however, I think it's a terrific venue with lots of potential, and I'm glad someone is taking the risk and investing in it.
