Today's English lesson

From Common Errors In English:

Butt Naked?

The actual phrase is not "butt naked" but buck naked. The problem with this seemingly innocuous phrase is that it actually originated as a description of a "buck" (a male slave) on the auction block, naked for bidders to see. Rather offensive, wouldn't you say?

Better just to say "stark naked."
