US group sues KFC to stop use of unhealthy fat

[yawn]

Yeah, the fake consumer group CSPI is still hard at work trying to be the nannies of the world, preventing us stupid toddlers from sticking our fingers into electrical sockets. They want to force Kentucky Fried Chicken fast-food outlets to change the kind of oil they fry chicken in.

HEY [knock knock]. WE KNOW. And you guys know that we know. You're just spending some idiotic fools' tax-writeoff $$$ by stating the obvious. WE KNOW THAT FRIED CHICKEN IS BAD FOR US. We don't care. And we get to pick what we care about. Because last time anyone checked, there was no legal mandate for thoughts and feelings. The very existence of "hate crimes" is bordering on such a thing, of course... but that's another topic for another day.

Anyway, we know. And if it bothered us that much, we wouldn't buy fried chicken from KFC. Obviously it doesn't bother us. So now you're going to make us eat something?

A very wise psychologist once told me (when I was in the throes of trying to potty-train one of my kids) that you can't control a kid's two "ends." You can't make them like something that you feed them, and you can't make them eliminate waste into a toilet. They have to agree to it. It's your job as a parent to figure out how to get them to agree to do it, not figure out how to force them to do it -- because you'll never be able to force them. I have found that to be wise advice and quite true of human nature.

The problem doesn't lie in forcing us to make better choices. The problem lies in who has to PAY for everyone's choices. And that means insurance reform, not a bunch of ninnies running around trying to legally mandate what they think is best for the rest of us.
