And now for something COMPLETELY different...

I got good news from my administrator today. For those of you who are new to my blog, I just recently re-entered the workplace after ten years of raising my babies. I just sent the last one off to kindergarten, and got hired by the school system to teach high school special-education. I was surprised to see just how much I would like what I'm doing and how well-suited I seem to be for the position. I'm teaching kids that are mostly taking regular-ed classes, but they come to my room for one block to get some catch-up help on their reading, math, anger management, or other things which cause them to fall behind in their classes. Plus I give them extra help on their homework and projects due for other classes.

Anyway, back to the good news: last Friday was my first "observation day", where one of the school administrators comes and observes me teaching, and gives me feedback on what I did right and on what I can improve. Today, she called me back in to her office during my planning block to go over the evaluation... and she told me that she was impressed. IMPRESSED! I felt like one big giant happy-dance. She wanted me to tweak some of the paperwork that I had turned in to her, but she only had praise for my teaching and my rapport with the kids. The subject matter I happened to be dealing with that day was "The Media and Public Opinion Polls", and I brought in examples of polls, both scientific and unscientific. I felt VERY comfortable with that topic (!!) and I think that my own enthusiasm for the subject made it a little more engaging for the students.

She actually used the word "impressed" ... I was so happy, I think I floated out of her office.
